Startups speak out as net neutrality bill advances

This afternoon, Engine released a letter signed by over 120 startups in support of H.R. 1644, the Save the Internet Act.

The legislation would restore the FCC’s 2015 Open Internet Order, which allowed startups to grow and succeed by keeping the Internet a level playing field. The strong net neutrality protections implemented by the agency, which ensured critical consumer protections for all online users, were repealed in 2017.

Startups rely on a free and open Internet to survive. As the letter notes: “Net neutrality has been critical to the Internet’s explosive growth, creating an open platform on which companies large and small can grow.”

Implementing strong net neutrality protections is critical for fostering competition and innovation within the startup ecosystem. Congressional leaders should work to quickly pass a clean, unamended version of H.R. 1644 when the House votes on the bill later this week.
